2020 U.S. Census

2020 Census Count Begins
The 2020 Census officially began on Jan. 21 in the Alaska Native village of Toksook Bay, Alaska, on the Bering Sea.
The U.S. Constitution mandates that a census of the United States population be conducted every 10 years. Census Bureau statistics are used to determine the number of seats each state receives in the U.S. House of Representatives and will inform the allocation of billions of dollars in federal funds by state, local, and federal lawmakers annually for the next 10 years.
For the first time, in addition to completing phone and mail surveys, people living in the United States can respond to the census online. In mid-March, households began receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census.
